Pinch me!

This must be a nightmare…

dear readers

It is with very heavy hearts that we say farewell. Over the last 4 years, in 28 issues, we have done our best to create a great magazine. We started with a real idea—that style is for everyone—and tried to carry it out with stories that provide inspiration and empower you to act on it. From your tremendous response, we know that we were onto something. In this tough economy, however, we simply weren’t able to get the advertising support we needed.

As domino evolved, we never lost sight of our original democratic premise. Looking back at the manifesto we published in the premiere issue, the first tenet of domino is still the truest: Home should make you happy. We hope we have played a part in making this come true for you.

Love,
All the editors of domino

Domino Magazine is stopping production :( I’m seriously going to cry… Domino was my absolute favorite magazine. Ever.

Not that the economy hasn’t been scaring the pants off of us lately and we knew that print mediums were going away but… wow. I didn’t see this one coming.

Also on the Domino website:

My Deco File Users:
The site will remain live for the next few weeks, giving you ample time to retrieve images from My Deco File.

Pulling the website, too? ugh.

I’m in total denial.

I’m upset that Mary Englebrite’s Home Companion is no more. That was my all time favorite. There was nothing like coming home from work and finding it in my mailbox. Reading it and taking in all the inspirational photos was a treat.

I just went to Domino’s Deco File, and now I’m hooked. I better work fast at downloading!

    Rachel Ashwell, too:

“This is a blog I never in my wildest nightmares thought I would have to write. Last Thursday evening Shabby Chic filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
Business has been hard for a while, but the notion that my beloved company would become as broken as it has was never a consideration for me.

I thought there would be other solutions. But with great sadness, in the end, it was the best choice of some very not nice choices. What this means to me is an opportunity to try to restructure and save Shabby Chic. Over the past couple of years we opened about 10 new stores. Largely due to an economy that took a dramatic turn, the timing was very poor to try and expand. There are other reasons that caused the cracks, which one day I will explain just to pass on my lessons.”

So sad and scary. But, it’s an opportune time for everyone to re-invent themselves.
