You should perhaps join our mixed media guild we have in Raleigh, we meet the 2nd Thursday of the month at a store meeting space or at someone's studio, I'll send you a link to the yahoo group and you can read through some of the messages and check it out! Definitely come down to Southern Pines, it's not far from where you are. When in the area, go to Broad Street and check out all the fab local shops. There's a great art gallery called Artist Alley that a friend of mine owns which a lot of the Carolina Mixed Media Guild members have their merchandise in located on New Hampshire that you definitely don't want to miss.
